The craft

What separates a bathroom that lasts from one that leaks

Anybody can set tile on a wall. In a Chicago building the wall is not flat, the floor is not level and the joists under it have been carrying a wet bathroom for eighty years. The work is everything that happens before the first tile.

The last five percent is what you live with every day. A membrane that was tested, corners that were siliconed rather than grouted, and a fan that actually reaches the outside of the building.

The waterproofing is tested, not assumed

The pan is filled and left overnight before a tile is set. It is the only way to know, and it is the step that gets skipped on a fast job.

The layout is drawn before it is cut

Courses that land whole at the ceiling, a niche that lines up with the joints, and cuts pushed to the corner nobody looks at. That is a drawing, not a decision made on a ladder.

The room gets the fan it needs

Sized to the volume and ducted to the outside of the building. A bathroom that stays wet for an hour after a shower has a duct problem, and no amount of new tile fixes it.

Small jobs are welcome

One vanity, one leaking shower or a set of new fixtures. We quote the smaller jobs many remodelers pass over, and they get the same care as a full gut.
